The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was established on 2 February 1996, with the mission to develop Singapore as a premier global hub port and international maritime centre (IMC), and to advance and safeguard Singapore's strategic maritime interests. MPA is the driving force behind Singapore's port and maritime development, taking on the roles of Port Authority, Port Regulator, Port Planner, IMC Champion, and National Maritime Representative. MPA partners the industry and other agencies to enhance safety, security and environmental protection in our port waters, facilitate port operations and growth, expand the cluster of maritime ancillary services, and promote maritime R&D and manpower development.
Maritime Singapore is a thriving ecosystem, comprising our global hub port, international maritime centre and strategic maritime interests.
Maritime Singapore has and continues to play a key role in the nation’s economic success, contributing 7% of the nation’s GDP and employing over 170,000 individuals.

The Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) is a non-profit trade association formed in 1968 to promote the interests of the marine industry in Singapore. ASMI represents a wide cross-section of the Singapore ship repair, shipbuilding and rig building industry. The major shiprepair yards, rig builders and shipbuilders in Singapore as well as most of the established local and foreign manufacturers and suppliers of marine and offshore components, and major marine and offshore engineering companies are among its members. It also represents marine and offshore engineering contractors and companies whose activities are directly related to the industry including classification societies and marine consultants.
The Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF), established on January 27 2004, was created to forge a strong partnership between the public and private sectors.
As a private sector-led body, we provide the industry with a clear and representative voice. We also benefit from strong industry support, which has enabled us to tap directly into the community for new ideas and initiatives that benefit the maritime fraternity here. Our members cover the entire spectrum of the industry, including the marine, shipping, port and ancillary services sectors.
We also work closely with the Singapore Government to advance our joint vision of developing Singapore into a premier International Maritime Centre (IMC).
As the bridge between Government and the private maritime sector, we help initiate ideas and drive proposals to boost the sector’s development and grow the overall Singapore economy.
The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) represents a wide spectrum of shipping companies and other businesses allied to the shipping industry. It is a national trade association formed in 1985 to serve and promote the interests of its members and to enhance the competitiveness of Singapore as an International Maritime Centre.
To achieve its objectives, the SSA engages and collaborates with the shipping industry key stakeholders and is a trusted advisor and partner to related government agencies. SSA is also actively involved in promoting the interests of shipping in Singapore and internationally. The SSA has been appointed executive seats, and co-operates with other regional and international shipping organizations to protect the marine environment and promote freedom and safety at sea. Despite being a not-for-profit organization, SSA strives to give back generously on behalf of its members, to the community in Corporate Social Responsibilities activities.
Currently, the SSA represents over 470 member companies; comprising ship owners and operators, ship managers, ship agents and other ancillary companies such as shipbrokers, classification societies, marine insurers, bunker suppliers, maritime lawyers, and shipping bankers amongst others.
