The Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) held from 6 to 14 April 2019 focused on the three foundations – Connectivity, Innovation and Talent – that steer Singapore’s standing as a leading global maritime hub.
The 14th edition of SMW attracted over 50,000 participants from more than 30 countries across 24 industry events, eight networking receptions and four public outreach activities.
SMW 2019 Opening Ceremony & Exhibition
SMW 2019 kicked off on 7 April with Mr Khaw Boon Wan Singapore's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport, opening the event at Marina Square.
The Bicentennial edition of the exhibition showcased Maritime Singapore's Past, Present and Future through immersive interactive experiences and showcased technologies to be found in the upcoming Next-Generation Port in Tuas.
13th Singapore Maritime Lecture
Singapore's Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Chan Chun Sing, delivered the keynote address at SMW's pre-eminent event – the Singapore Maritime Lecture, on 8 April 2019.
Mr Chan was joined by Mr SS Teo, Executive Chairman and Managing Director of Pacific International Lines, Mr Samuel Tsien, Group CEO of OCBC Group, and Ms Edith Yeung, Partner of 500 Startups for the panel discussion thereafter moderated by Mr Andreas Sohmen-Pao, Chairman of BW Group and Singapore Maritime Foundation.
4th Singapore Maritime Technology Conference
The Sea Transport Industry Digital Plan for the ship agency and harbour craft sub-sectors was rolled out at the three-day event from 10 to 12 April 2019 at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
At the R&D Seminar, key decision makers from both local and international maritime and research communities shared their perspectives on enabling the transformation of the port through digitalisation, research and innovation. The Technology Seminar included presentations by companies such as Microsoft Singapore and Wilhelmsen Ships Service./p>
International Maritime Awards & Reception
The prestigious biennial awards and gala dinner took place at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, on 8 April 2019.
The awards were handed to individuals and companies for their outstanding contributions to Singapore's development as a premier global hub port and a leading international maritime centre.
Advanced Maritime Leaders' Programme
The third edition of the programme was held from 7 to 11 April 2019 in Singapore for 29 senior leaders in maritime or port administration roles from 26 countries and the International Maritime Organisation.
The programme was organised by MPA Academy in partnership with the Singapore Management University, and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the Singapore Cooperation Programme.
