The 15th edition of the Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) received strong support from the industry, attracting more than 11,000 participants over 20 industry events.
Organised for the first time as a hybrid show from 19th to 23rd April 2021, signature events were held physically at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre and livestreamed to an international audience via the dedicated SMW event platform.
The theme for SMW 2021 was "New Frontiers, Shifting Paradigms". More than 100 global speakers from government, industry and academia exchanged ideas and pushed forward key maritime issues, focusing on the areas of resilience, digitalisation, decarbonisation and talent.

SMW 2021 was officially opened by Mr Ong Ye Kung, Singapore Minister for Transport. He was joined on stage by Mr Simon Kuik, President of the Association of Singapore Marine Industries, Mr Andreas Sohmen-Pao, Chairman of the Singapore Maritime Foundation, Mr Niam Chiang Meng, Chairman of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, and Ms Caroline Yang, President of the Singapore Shipping Association.
The opening ceremony was followed by the highly anticipated Singapore Maritime Lecture, delivered by keynote speaker Mr Yee Yang Chien, President and Group CEO of MISC Group. Mr Yee spoke candidly on the value of collaboration in his keynote speech titled "Making The Future Possible". Following his keynote address, Mr Yee joined Ms Vandita Pant, Chief Commerical Officer of BHP, Ms Pang Mei Yee, Global Practice Lead for Supply Chain and Analytics Head of Asia Pacific, and Mr Simon Kuik, President of the Association of Singapore Marine Industries.
Day 1 of SMW 2021 also recognised 10 companies and an individual for their significant contributions to Maritime Singapore at the Singapore International Maritime Awards (IMA) 2021.
Two new awards - the Sustainability Award and the Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) Green Ship Owner Award - were introduced in 2021 to recognise companies' efforts to decarbonise and make international shipping more sustainable.
SMW is the leading maritime event in the region, and offers a platform for the maritime community to discuss pertinent issues and explore solutions.
