Fuels such as biofuels, methanol, ammonia and hydrogen have been identified as fuels with high potential to decarbonise international shipping, but each of these fuels has various production pathways, risks and associated costs. 2.45PM	Presentation on Industry Consultation for Electric Harbour Craft Charging System Standard Kester Kiong Sustainability Manager (Maritime Decarbonisation) Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Together with Enterprise Singapore, industry stakeholders and academia, MPA has developed a Technical Reference (TR) for electric harbour craft charging and battery swap systems. Kester will provide an overview of the TR, highlighting the requirements and guidelines for onshore electrical installations and battery swap operations that will ensure safety, operational efficiency, and interoperability.
3.00PM	Panel Discussion: Technological Pathways for Harbour Craft Technology readiness levels and roadmaps for Tugs and Bunker Tankers (e.g. electrification, fuel cell technology, methanol and ammonia engines for Tugs and Bunker Tankers) Challenges and opportunities in building up the supporting ecosystem for clean tugs and bunker ships Making net-zero harbour craft more economically accessible and viable through better financing and insurance (including underwriting) mechanisms. This panel will focus on the net-zero pathways / designs for different harbour craft types, with a particular focus on tugboats and bunker tankers. The panel will explore the feasibility of engines running on the future fuels of methanol or ammonia, determine how fuel cell technologies can be used to power harbour craft. 3.45PM	Panel Discussion: Decarbonising and Optimising the Sea Transport of Crew and Goods in Port Waters How can the harbour craft sector transform business operations to heighten efficiency? How business transformation can be done in line with decarbonisation / fleet replacement efforts. The panel will discuss how to make clean harbour craft more economically viable, through competitive insurance and financing mechanisms, as well as funding tools. There will be discussion on the regulator's role in providing a robust and reliable regulatory framework to oversee the manufacturing process of new green builds and hence help to provide assurance to insurers. The panel will explore how the harbour craft sector can transform its operations by improving the efficiency and productivity in delivering essential marine services. Current business operations are not efficient, and the harbour craft sector can transform its business by integrating passenger and cargo logistic services such that the fleet of harbour craft more optimally matches the commercial capacity demanded. There will be discussion on right-routing and smart routing, as well as right-sizing of both vessel size and fleet size. The panel will also discuss how such business transformation of harbour craft operations ties in with our emissions reduction plans. With the replacement of the current harbour craft fleet with new net-zero craft, Maritime Singapore can consolidate and right-size the new harbour craft fleet size to optimise operations.
