To this end, IMO's e-Navigation Strategy Implementation Plan plays an important role in our next generation port, and MPA's digitalSHIPTM initiative paves the way forward through various ship-to-shore harmonization and interoperability projects such as the Next Generation Vessel Traffic Management System innovation programme that incorporates e-Navigation Maritime Services and advance communications solutions leveraging satellite communication, 5G technology, and the VHF Data Exchange System (VDES) which will be critical for digitalisation and smart technology applications in our port waters.
Speaker: Mr David Foo, Assistant Chief Officer (Operations-Technology), Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore
|Inaugural meeting of NextGEN stakeholders via Breakout Session: Mapping the global maritime decarbonisation system - identifying synergies, exploring collaborations|

Digitalization has the potential to provide IMO with the data and information it needs to meet the decarbonization challenge and for industry to enhance the safety and efficiency of its operations. However, as the pace of new technology implementation continues to accelerate, the regulatory system must adapt accordingly and deliver sophisticated legislative tools that provide for a level playing field of assurance if digitalization is to achieve its maximum contribution to decarbonization.
